I came to Nicaragua for one week on a fact finding mission. Would it be a place that I liked enough to want to establish a home for retirement or at least come to when it snows in the northeast USA?
I came only with a tent, sleeping bag and a duffle bag full of baseballs and soccer equipment for the Nicaraguan children. My first stop was the beach of Majagual and it was love at first sight! I couldn't get over the beauty.
I camped there for three days and then upgraded to a $10 dollar a night hotel with AC in SJDS. I spent most of the days playing soccer on the beach. That is when I fell in love with the people........soccer can get rough and never once during the week did I see any nastiness. Later..... I found myself high-fiving people along the road that I had played soccer with the past few days!
I had narrowed down two developments I was interested in- if I liked Nicaragua. One was PDA. My first image was that the roads were cut and there was a house being built. In my mind the developer was committed. I thought about it for a few days and then drove up there at dusk with a few Victorias(cerveza) and hung out watching the sun set. When I heard the howler monkeys in the treetops it was a clincher!
I own lot A-8 and look forward to the day that I can build and get away from the Northeast winters!
